First-year poet wins Furious Flower Poetry Prize

Martins Deep has won the 2025 Furious Flower Poetry Prize as selected by judge aracelis girmay. The prize includes publication in Obsidian, an award of $1500, and an invitation to read at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA on September 18 alongside the guest judge.

The nation's first academic center for Black poetry, Furious Flower was established on the James Madison University campus to serve creative writers, literary and cultural scholars, and poetry lovers everywhere.

Martins Deep is a photographer, digital artist and poet. His work has appeared in Magma Poetry, Strange Horizons, december, Palette Poetry, Frontier Poetry, among others.
